About the Role:
OPIS' Mexico fuels editorial team is a thriving provider of fuel markets pricing and news. We provide transparency through real-time news and pricing services, and market-specific benchmark pricing reports that enable our customers to make smarter, more informed decisions.
As an Associate Journalist based in Monterrey Mexico, you will use your writing, editing and interviewing skills to contribute to the publication of daily reports focused on news and pricing activity. You will report on daily market pricing, news and market fundamentals, as well as compile reports under tight deadlines while adhering to compliance standards for price reporting. You will focus primarily on refined products and freight coverage, but you may also cover news related to renewable fuel, carbon credits, electromobility, LPG and other energy topics. Knowledge of petroleum markets is a plus, but if you do not have - you must have the curiosity to learn about the industry and the ability to report on complex regulatory and market issues. You will report to the Journalism Director.

You Will:
- Report on multiple aspects of the Mexico Fuels markets - from the refinery to the retail pump - for daily news alerts and reports on tight deadlines, including breaking news and analytical features
- Compile and publish OPIS reports, and contribute copy to the aforementioned reports
- Follow rigorous IOSCO compliance standards
- Develop and maintain relationships with key contacts and contact industry stakeholders daily (producers, consumers, traders, brokers and other participants) to generate exclusive content, track developing industry trends, and further develop OPIS' Mexico Fuels business
- Contribute to social media content, blog postings and industry analysis
- Provide back-up Freight Rate price reporting coverage
- Travel occasionally
You Have:
- Advanced English and Spanish writing skills, with previous experience writing in English (please attach English language cover letter and writing samples to your application)
- Ability to develop subject matter expertise in Mexico energy markets
- An investigative mindset
- Ability to proactively search alternative sources of data
- Ability to generate story ideas and exclusive content
- A commitment to the highest level of accuracy and to completing all writing within established deadlines
- 1-2 years reporting/journalism experience and/or energy markets experience (preferred)
- Experience in energy data analysis (preferred)
- Experience using the Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, economics, business, finance, English or relevant field -OR- Equivalent work experience
- Experience with public speaking to small and large groups (preferred)
- Flexibility to travel on occasion for business purposes
